What AltLibre is
AltLibre is an independent research practice on digital sovereignty: where data sits, whose laws it answers to, and what that costs. It publishes papers, analysis and a public evidence base, and takes a small amount of advisory work alongside. It is run by Adrian Hollister from Cornwall, in his own time. Everything published here is his own view and does not represent any employer, client or organisation he works with. The practice is one person today and is written to admit others later; nothing on this page changes when that happens.
The method
Every factual claim in a paper carries a numbered reference to a dated primary or reputable secondary source. Where a claim is judgement rather than established fact, the text says so. Each paper carries a method note setting out how claims were verified and what was excluded.
The evidence base is maintained rather than published and abandoned. Each page states its assumptions and shows the date it was last reviewed. Comparisons are re-run when products or prices change; the review date moves when the page is re-verified, not when a typo is fixed.
Independence and funding
AltLibre takes no commissions, referral fees or sponsorship from any vendor named in its research. Advisory clients do not influence what is published. The research is not for sale, and nothing on this site is placed. Where a tool is recommended, it is because it does the job. The site runs no analytics, no advertising and no trackers; the hosting bill is the whole cost.
AI on this site
The articles are written by Adrian Hollister. AI tools are sometimes used the way a sub-editor would be: to challenge a draft, tighten wording or check an argument. A human reviews, edits and takes editorial responsibility for everything published. Cover images made with AI tools carry a visible label at first exposure, and the full provenance register is public on the AI transparency page. No chatbots, no generated audio or video, no deepfakes.
Corrections
Errors get corrected visibly. Email info@altlibre.com or use the contact page with the page and the claim. Factual corrections are made in the text with the review date updated; the register and the evidence pages read from the same data the site renders, so a correction shows everywhere it matters at once.

Everything published is under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0. Quote it, republish it, translate it: credit Adrian Hollister, link back to the original, and release what you build on it under the same terms.
